Unless you try to do something beyond what you already mastered, you will never grow.

“Great things never came from comfort zones” is a phrase that you’ve probably heard at some point. Comfort zones inevitably remain something that we are constantly seeking because they are just what their name claims: comfortable. The problem with comfort zones is that, as the phrase states, greatness does not arise from within them. Why, then, do we continually seek them out?

Because who in the world wants to be uncomfortable? We are uncomfortable because outside of the walls of those comfort zones lies vulnerability and vulnerability can be a scary thing. When we step out and put ourselves in a vulnerable position, we risk failure and criticism. You risk not being a person who pleases everyone around you. However, when you choose the familiarity of that comfort zone over the risk of vulnerability that occurs outside those walls, you also choose to limit your opportunities for growth.

Growth is defined as an increase. Therefore, if you desire growth, you must pursue more. You must step out into something above and beyond where you already find yourself comfortable.

Where have you found yourself clinging to a comfort zone lately? What do you need to do to pursue growth in that area?
