All orders should be checked when they come in. Not only are you checking to see if the number of items is correct, but you are also checking to ensure that the right item was delivered and that the quality is up to your standards. Check in items by writing a check mark next to each item on the order and the invoice to ensure accuracy and a written record. Then sign the invoice or statement when the entire delivery meets with your approval.
When receiving meat or seafood, depending on the size of the order, you may want to weigh it and compare the weight stated on the invoice. If you are receiving large boxes of meat, this might be difficult. When receiving produce, check to make sure that the produce looks good. You can’t spend too much time since your driver will need to continue his route. But you can examine it to make sure that nothing is rotten.
